Gift shop

The gift shop is located on the first floor lobby of the Maternity and Women’s Center, right next to the Children’s Hospital, and is open during the following hours:

• Monday through Friday from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
• Saturday & Sunday 11 a.m.-3 p.m.

ATM

For your convenience, an ATM is available inside the main hospital near Wendy’s and Subway, in the hallway connecting The Children’s Hospital to the cafeteria.

Outpatient pharmacy

A Walgreens outpatient pharmacy is located on the first floor of Ascension Sacred Heart Pensacola near the entrance to the Payne Building. Bedside-delivery service is available from 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday through Friday. For more information, call 850-477-7568.

Laundry

Washing machines and dryers for patient and family use are located in the Ronald McDonald Family Room on the second floor.

Chapel and pastoral care

The hospital’s chapel is located on the second floor of the main hospital and is open 24 hours a day. Families are welcome to use this room for prayer, meditation or quiet time. Mass is held at 11:30 a.m. each weekday; at 8 p.m. on Saturdays; and at 8 a.m. on Sundays.

Food for parents and guests

Meal delivery

Patients’ family members can purchase a meal tray from Patient Services to be delivered to the room when the patient’s meal is delivered. Payment for these meals can be made at the cashiers’ stations in the hospital café. Prices are $3 for breakfast and $5 for lunch or dinner. Prices include tax. Please ask your catering associate for details.

Coastal Café

• Open seven days a week

Activities for children

Mother Seton Children’s Garden

Our new Mother Seton Children’s Garden — next to the front entrance of the new Children’s Hospital — is set up in pods, with shrubs, gazebos, benches and various playground equipment arranged to offer privacy and serve very different groups of people with different needs at the same time, including siblings of Children’s Hospital patients, pediatric rehabilitation patients, as well as our most seriously ill patients.

Part of our Mother Seton Children’s Garden includes a dog park, where both our adult and pediatric patients can come to reunite with their furry friends. The dog park includes benches to sit on and a water faucet specifically for when our dogs get thirsty.

DVDs, video games and baby items

DVDs and video games are available for checkout at the nurses’ station. Infant and toddler equipment, including mobiles, high chairs and wagons are available by asking any staff member.

Playroom

The playroom is located at the end of the hallway on the fourth floor, Pediatric Medical/Surgical Unit. It is open from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. for patients at The Children’s Hospital. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Siblings may use the playroom, as long as they are accompanied by an adult and the patient they are visiting.

Children on isolation

• Books, toys and games can be brought to the bedside if a child is unable to leave his or her room.
• Patients on special contact and/or airborne isolation may not leave their rooms.
• Patients on contact or droplet isolation may schedule private playroom time if accompanied by a staff member, as staffing permits. Patients on contact or droplet isolation, as well as their family members, must wash their hands and wear yellow gowns and/or masks before they visit the playroom.

Rooftop Healing Garden

The Rooftop Healing Garden is located on the fourth floor and is open 24/7. Children under age 12 must be accompanied

Ronald McDonald House

Overnight stays

The Ronald McDonald House, located just down the hill from the Children’s Hospital, provides short-term housing for families who have to travel to Pensacola to receive critical medical treatment for their children. Prior to admission, families can complete an online application to determine eligibility by visiting rmhc-nwfl.org. To inquire about availability, please call 850-477-2273.

Ronald McDonald Family Room

In addition to the Ronald McDonald House on the Ascension Sacred Heart Pensacola campus, the Ronald McDonald Family Room on the second floor of the children’s hospital is a space where families can sleep, eat, shower, do laundry, use a computer and relax mere steps away from the hospital bedside. The Family Room features an open living room and dining room, full kitchen, shower room, laundry room, computer area, playroom for patients’ siblings and quiet room for families who receive upsetting news and need privacy for processing a diagnosis or making a phone call.

The Ronald McDonald Family Room also features three bedrooms and bathrooms to provide overnight accommodations in emergency situations when families need to be seconds away from children who are in critical condition.

Respite care

Families not staying overnight can take a break from the hospital environment through the Respite Care Program. They are welcome to use the common areas of the house, including the kitchen, courtyard, playground, living and dining areas. Respite Care is available from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and families are welcome to visit for breakfast, lunch, dinner or snacks.

Child Life Department

Kids don’t stop being kids just because they’re sick! Our goal at the Children’s Hospital is to make medical care a positive and less stressful experience — so children can focus on being children, whether they’re being admitted to the hospital or visiting for outpatient treatment or diagnostic testing.

Child life specialists are child development experts who work to ensure that life remains as normal as possible for children in healthcare settings and other challenging environments. They promote effective coping through play, self-expression activities and age-appropriate medical preparation and education.

As advocates of family-centered care, child life specialists work in partnership with doctors, nurses, social workers and other members of the healthcare team to meet the unique emotional, developmental and cultural needs of each child and family.

When to request a child life specialist:

• My child is nervous or has questions about an upcoming procedure or test.
• My child needs help coping during a procedure or test.
• My child’s brother or sister has concerns about the hospital.
• My child has had a traumatic experience.
• My child is having difficulty coping with hospital or doctor visits.
• My child has a long-term condition or was just diagnosed with one.
• My child is coming to the hospital for surgery and would benefit from a pre-admission visit.
• My child needs age-appropriate toys or activities.
• I have questions about my child’s developmental needs.
• I need suggestions for talking to my child about his or her hospital experience.

Sick and injured children now have the comfort of a furry friend during visits to The Studer Family Children’s Hospital at Ascension Sacred Heart, thanks to our facility dog program, made possible due to a $100,300 grant from IMPACT 100 Pensacola Bay Area, Inc.

Our four fully trained and certified facility dogs came to the Children's Hospital from Canine Assistants, a non-profit organization based in Milton, Georgia, that trains and provides service dogs for children and adults with physical disabilities or other special needs. Our dogs and their primary handlers received specialized training through Canine Assistants.

Facility dogs wear their service-dog vest at all times. They are given regular trips outside and breaks in a quiet space at the Children’s Hospital. When not at work, the dogs live like normal pets, relaxing and playing with their handlers at home. The dogs are frequently bathed, via donated support from local groomer, Shampoochies, and also have spot clean-ups throughout the day as needed.

Sherlock works with patients and families on the inpatient floors of the Children’s Hospital. Klio works in pediatric rehabilitation. Kohl works in pediatric surgery and pre-op, and Tully is in pediatric radiology.
